Palestinian Authority accuses Fayyad's development institute of money laundering

An official Palestinian Authority (PA) security source said on Monday that the decision to freeze the bank accounts of non-profit organisation Future for Palestine came after information was provided to the Public Prosecution about regarding managed by the organisation for political purposes.

The official News Agency WAFA quoted the source as saying that the matter is now in the hands of the Public Prosecution.

The PA’ss Attorney General decided on Sunday to freeze the bank accounts of Future for Palestine, which is headed by former Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

After leaving the position of Prime Minister, Fayyad established the foundation that has been working in development projects, including many prominent projects that have had a clear impact.

Fayyad rejected the freezing of his foundation’s funds and said he would veto it before the judiciary.

The relationship between Fayyad and President Mahmoud Abbas worsened amid already strained relations between the former prime minister and Fatah’s leaders.
