The European Union yesterday renewed a ban on all seven Libyan airlines from operating in the airspace of the 28-nation bloc citing threats to flight operations, the Anadolu Agency reported.
In a statement, European Union Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc said: “The decision comes after a periodic review of the EU Air Safety List” which currently includes 20 countries and 232 airlines.
On 11 December, the EU imposed a ban on all Libyan airlines citing security reasons.
“The Commission’s decision is based on the unanimous opinion of the EU Air Safety Committee, which met on June 9- 11,” Bulc explained.
The ban includes Libyan Airlines, African airlines, Libya Airways and Libyan al-Buraq Airway, Ghadames Air Transport and Global Aviation.
