Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt rejects Sisi's call for coexistence

The Egyptian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood has rejected a request by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to contain the group within the state, describing it as “a new lie by an infamous tyrant”.

Sisi called on the Muslim Brotherhood to overcome past conflicts with the state and to turn over a new leaf under his leadership.

Dr Mohammed Sudan, a prominent leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and current Foreign Relations Secretary of the Freedom and Justice Party (the Brotherhood’s political arm), described Sisi’s invitation as “a new lie that adds up to a long list of lies”.

In remarks to Al-Mesryoon newspaper, Sudan said that “if he [Sisi] wants to open new chapter of relations, why did he commit all those massacres in the first place and allowed his corrupt judiciary to issue all those mass death sentences against the Muslim Brotherhood leaders and confiscated the group’s assets?”

Meanwhile, a leader of the Anti-Coup Alliance, Attia Adlan affirmed that “Sisi is trying to find a lifeline for himself after he failed to manage the state affairs and led the Egyptian economy to further deterioration.”

“Sisi knows nothing about reconciliation because his army mentality only knows how to oppress,” Adlan added.
