Algeria, Tunisia to hold security meeting to coordinate fight against terrorism

High level Algerian and Tunisian security officials will hold a meeting later this week to develop new measures to combat terrorism, especially on the border between the two countries, an Algerian security source has revealed.

Algeria’s Al-Fajr newspaper said on Monday that the meeting comes following instructions from Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his Tunisian counterpart Beji Kaid Essebsi in the wake of the terrorist attack that shook the Tunisian coastal city of Sousse on Friday.

The newspaper quoted an Algerian security source, who confirmed that the security meeting comes as an expression of support for Tunisia in this difficult phase.

According to the source, Algeria will offer its expertise in the field of anti-terror tactics to its Tunisian neighbours.

A number of new arrangements to combat terrorism and terrorism-related crime are expected to come out of the meeting, including drawing up a list of suspected active terrorist organisations in the region.

The meeting will conclude with agreeing on plans for joint military operations between the Algerian and Tunisian armies on the border to strike the strongholds of terrorist groups in the region.
