Tunisia’s Ennahda party leader Rachid Ghannouchi yesterday expressed the party’s full support for the state and security forces’ efforts to combat terrorism.

A statement released by the republic’s presidential office following Ghannouchi’s meeting with President Beji Caid Essebsi said: “Ghannouchi discussed with Essebsi the main challenge facing Tunisian terrorism today, that is terrorism surpassing all the political and social differences.”

The statement added that Ghannouchi expressed full support for state efforts to face this danger in Tunisia, stressing that all Tunisians must unite in the face of this danger.

Tunisia witnessed the bloodiest terrorist attack on Friday, when a gunman opened fire on tourist in the coastal city of Sousse killing 38 tourists.

The Tunisian economy depends heavily on tourism which employs nearly 400,000 people making up some seven per cent of the country’s GDP and by 18-20 per cent of annual revenues from foreign exchange.
