Saudi Arabia is fearful of secret talks being held between the UAE and Iran over Syria and other issues, recent WikiLeaks documents has revealed.

According to the Anadolu Agency, one of the documents included information about UAE talks with Iran about Syria and the economic sanctions imposed on Tehran.

The core of the talks is regarding maintaining Iran’s commercial relations with the UAE and keeping communications open about the UAE islands occupied by Iran in return for continuing to smuggle oil money from and to Russia and not siding with the Syrian opposition.

The document, which is dated 12/4/1433 according to the Hijri calendar which coincides with 5 March 2012, showed the then Saudi Foreign Minister Saudi Al-Faisal sending a message to the Royal Court speaking about the Syrian crisis. That followed a crackdown on an anti-Assad demonstration in the UAE and threats to expel 60 protesters.

Al-Faisal said that this measure, which was based on information from the Saudi embassy in Abu Dhabi, was an attempt to frighten foreign communities.
