Iran bans celebrating prospective nuclear deal

July 7, 2015 at 10:53 am

The spokesman of the Iranian Interior Ministry, Hossein Ali Amiri, said on Monday that no applications had been approved for celebrations commemorating the potential nuclear deal with the US, Rassd reported.

Media monitors expected that such celebrations were banned as a result of the influence of right-wing stakeholders, who dominate the Islamic Republic’s decision-making positions. Such conservatives would consider a comprehensive deal based on the nuclear framework agreement reached in Lausanne to be a defeat.

This view is based on a belief that freezing the country’s nuclear programme would limit its arming abilities and thus jeopardise its role in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Iranian news agency Tasnim reported an informed source in Vienna as saying that the announcement regarding the results of the ongoing nuclear talks would be made at midnight on Wednesday or Thursday at dawn.

Tasnim said that Iran is calling for the lifting of sanctions put on the country by the UN Security Council. This is completely opposed by the West, the news agency said.
