Activists launch campaign to cancel Sisi's visit to London

British activists have launched a petition demanding British Prime Minister David Cameron cancel Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi’s visit to Britain.

Al Jazeera reported that the activists launched the campaign through Avaaz, an online activist network, after several British and Egyptian newspapers reported in June that the British government had invited Al- Sisi to visit London.

The campaign organisers said in their petition: “We strongly condemn the UK government’s invitation to Egyptian military dictator Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi to visit London. Mr. Sisi and his military regime represent the antithesis of fundamental British values of the rule of law, respect for human rights and democracy.”

According to the petition: “Sisi’s regime has committed what Human Rights Watch called the worst massacres in Egypt’s modern history, and turned the judiciary into a tool to settle scores with the civilian opposition.”
