July 9, 2015 at 9:24 am

The ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and Western powers have created tension between EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Anadolu Agency reported on Wednesday.

A senior official close to the stakeholders was reported as saying that there was a moment of tension in the EU offices on 6 July during a discussion regarding lifting the sanctions imposed on Iran.

Anadolu reported that Mogherini told Zarif she would immediately to end talks if he does not endeavour to reach an agreement. Zarif replied: “Do not try threatening Iranians.”

At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergi Lavrov told Mogherini “not to try threatening Russia.”

Zarif and Mogherini have recently met behind closed doors. No information was leaked about this meeting.
