Algeria, Tunisia may install electronic surveillance systems along border

July 13, 2015 at 9:35 am

Algeria and Tunisia are studying a plan to equip their land border with an electronic surveillance system to block infiltrations by Jihadists, an Algerian security source revealed.

The source, who asked not to be named, told the Anadolu Agency that “a security and military technical joint committee was formed in June to review the plan.”

He pointed out that it will take several months to complete the technical study.

The source said the system, which would be installed along the 965 kilometre border between the two countries, will include control stations on both sides of the border and an electronic sensor fence.

The land border between Algeria and Tunisia is controlled by the armies of both countries, but some infiltrators have been able to cross the border during the night, he explained.

Adding that the Algerian control points have been equipped with night vision binoculars to enhance surveillance.
