Algeria calls for unity government in Libya

July 22, 2015 at 3:26 pm

Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal has called on the international community to support a national unity government in Libya to resolve the crisis, Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported.

Sellal stressed during a visit to Spain that his country supports a “political solution” to the Libyan crisis as part of a comprehensive solution “to enable Libya to maintain its cohesion, sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The Algerian Minister of Maghreb and African Affairs Abdelkader Messahel said earlier that “Algeria considers the situation in Libya a national security issue for being a neighbouring country.”

Algeria has been hosting a UN sponsored dialogue between Libyan political figures since March in order to discuss a draft agreement to lift the country out of its current crisis.
