Lieberman criticises policy over Iran nuclear issue

July 25, 2015 at 12:18 pm

Former Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has criticised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the way that he is running the government, Quds Press reported on Friday. “Netanyahu is unable to deal creatively with the Iranian nuclear dossier,” said Lieberman. This, he added, requires “creativity, strictness and the ability to take action”; Netanyahu, he claimed, does not have any of these characteristics.

“[The prime minister] is distinctive in his performance during his electoral campaigns as he makes many promises, while planning not to fulfil any of them,” alleged Netanyahu’s former cabinet colleague. Lieberman expects the current government to break down in the first quarter of next year when, he believes, Israelis will be set for early elections.

Meanwhile, former Finance Minister Yair Lapid has called for an official probe into the “failure of Netanyahu’s foreign policy” in the wake of the announcement of the Iranian nuclear deal. The head of the leftist Meretz Party, Zahava Gal On, supported Lapid’s call, stressing the importance of forming a special parliamentary committee for this issue.
