Sisi removes court's timeframe to look into election complaints

July 29, 2015 at 12:16 pm

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi yesterday announced a new decree annulling a previous law introduced by his predecessor Adly Mansour which obliged the Constitutional Court to adhere to a time framework to examine electoral appeals.

The Anadolu Agency said an official Egyptian newspaper published the new decision number 91/2015, which cancels the decision of the previous president number 26/ 2014.

Law expert Jamal Jibril told Anadolu that “neither the new law nor the previous law are able to prevent the dissolution of the parliament if the Constitutional Court has decided.”

The solution, he said, “is that the state issues electoral laws that do not go against the Constitution.”
