Resistance and BDS only way to change Israeli settlement policies: Zoabi says

July 30, 2015 at 8:40 am

Arab Member of the Knesset Hanin Zoabi said yesterday that the Palestinian resistance and international prosecution of Israeli crimes can only change the Israeli settlement policies, Arab48.com reported.

Zoabi’s remarks came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the construction of 500 new settlement units in the illegal settlements in occupied East Jerusalem and 300 others in Beit El settlement near the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Netanyahu’s decision came in response to an Israeli High Court ruling ordering the demolition of two settlement buildings in Beit El.

In a statement, Zoabi said: “We are captives of the extremist [Israeli] political discourse released by the extremist rightest Netanyahu, [Uri] Ariel and [Naftali] Bennett, who are more extreme.”

“We have to do our best not to fell in this trap… There is an Israeli consensus over settlements. Changing this consensus does not come from inside Israel, but from the Palestinian resistance and the international prosecution of the Israeli crimes.”

She stressed: “The occupation does not change its opinion unless it suffers. The occupation will not end unless it becomes expensive. Therefore, developing popular resistance, reinforcing boycotting movements and activating international pressure are the only ways to face the occupation.”
