Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika yesterday announced his determination to develop his country’s links with Morocco following decades of strained relations, the local APS news agency reported.

In a congratulatory letter to King Mohammed VI of Morocco on the occasion of 16th anniversary of his accession to the throne, Bouteflika said: “I express to Your Majesty my absolute readiness to continue working with you in order to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and solidarity that join our two brotherly countries and open up new horizons for fruitful cooperation that brings growth and prosperity to our people.”

Relations between Algeria and Morocco have been strained because of their ongoing battle of parts of the Sahara region.
