July 31, 2015 at 11:22 am

In an event that is believed to be the first of its kind to be held in a Palestinian village, Aqraba south of Nablus has hosted a mass wedding for 120 couples. The vast majority of the couples are from villages south of Nablus, but there are also others from the governorates of Jenin, Tubas, Salfit and Qalqilya.

More than 10,000 people gathered to join in the celebration, which began shortly after sunset on Thursday. As the couples entered the grounds, they were greeted by ululations and traditional dancers.

A number of security officials were in attendance, as were representatives of various local institutions, to congratulate the couples, their families and residents of Aqraba and neighbouring villages.
