German ambassador rejects Kerry's terror label of Brotherhood

German Ambassador in Cairo HansJoerg Haber yesterday criticised US Secretary of State John Kerry for describing the Muslim Brotherhood “as a terrorist organisation”.

“We do not know what Kerry means when he said that the Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist group, but we reject terrorism from any party, and we cooperate with all our partners in the field of counter-terrorism and there are organisations that declared themselves as terrorist groups, such as Ajnad Misr and Ansar Bayt Al-Maqdis,” Haber said in a press conference yesterday in preparation for the German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Cairo to participate in the opening ceremony of the Suez Canal.

“The Muslim Brotherhood in particular is in a foggy area because they say they are not responsible for any terrorist operations and we must look closely at this matter, and know who is in charge of this matter.”

During a press conference on Sunday, Kerry said: “I have information that some of the Muslim Brotherhood leaders are involved in violence.”
