Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has told his Turkish counterpart that the fight against terrorism must be arranged by national governments. Speaking during a telephone conversation with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Iranian leader said that the absence of such arrangements and coordination might end terror attacks but will create more problems, Today’s Opinion has reported..

Rouhani asked Erdogan to cooperate in order to find common ground and a practical solution to uproot terror in the region. He stressed that Daesh and other terror groups are “worrying” and will affect neighbouring countries. Expanding relations with Ankara is “important” for the government in Tehran, the Iranian president added.

Erdogan told Rouhani that it is important to end the chaos, wars and instability in the region, by working together against terrorists, mainly Daesh . The activities of terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda is “dangerous” for the Islamic world, he said.

Turkey has now commenced air operations against Daesh and the PKK in Syria and Iraq. Foreign Minister Mawlood Jawish Oglu said that his country and the United States are to launch a comprehensive military operation against Daesh very soon, after the arrival of US fighter aircraft and drones in Turkish bases. The government in Ankara has only recently given the US permission to use its military bases for the fight against Daesh .

CNN reported American officials on Wednesday saying that the US had carried out the first airstrike against Daesh in the north of Syria, using Turkish air force bases.
