First prisoner swap between Yemen's Houthis and popular resistance

August 7, 2015 at 11:37 am

The first exchange of prisoners between Shia Houthi rebels and popular resistance fighters took place yesterday in Aden, south of Yemen, the spokesman for the International Red Cross in Yemen Adnan Ihzam said.

Ihzam said the Red Cross facilitated the transfer of seven Houthi prisoners from Aden to the capital Sanaa, at the request of the Houthi group.

He did not disclose the number of prisoners released by Houthi rebels but sources in the Popular Resistance in Aden told the agency that the rebels released 30 prisoners held in Sanaa.

The Red Cross received positive feedback from the conflicting parties on the prisoners swap and it expects more operations to take place, he said.
