Military reinforcements cross Saudi border to Yemen

August 7, 2015 at 1:21 pm

Military reinforcements including dozens of military vehicles and hundreds of Yemeni soldiers entered Yemen on Wednesday night coming from Saudi Arabia to support operations against Houthi rebels and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, military and tribal sources said.

The development comes as violent clashes are reported in the city of Taiz between rebels and forces loyal to Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

A Yemeni military source said that “dozens of tanks, armoured vehicles and personnel carriers, as well as hundreds of Yemeni soldiers trained in Saudi Arabia, arrived in Yemen overnight via the Wadia border post in the north of the country.”

“These military reinforcements came from Saudi Arabia’s Sharura region and are intended for the popular resistance and the national army,” another military source said.

Hadi forces receive aerial and ground support from the Saudi-led Arab coalition forces.

Tribal and military sources said the Yemeni soldiers have probably received training in Saudi Arabia under the command of Yemeni officer Jahdal Al-Awlaki.
