Egypt shuts down 10 Brotherhood NGOs

August 12, 2015 at 8:27 am

Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali ordered the dissolution of ten NGOs with links to the Muslim Brotherhood and the suspension of the administrations of 29 others, Quds Press reported yesterday.

The court of urgent matters banned the Brotherhood in September 2013, in the wake of the military coup which ousted the first freely elected Egyptian president. A committee to manage the Muslim Brotherhood’s properties and funds was then formed.

In a statement, Wali said that the decision to shut down the NGOs was an implementation of the court’s ruling.

Since then, more than 450 NGO’s have been shut down; most provided basic healthcare and social services.
