August 14, 2015 at 12:20 pm

“The Amazigh are preparing to elect a higher council to defend their cultural and linguistic rights as a result of the marginalisation policy practiced against them by the successive authorities,” the head of Libya’s Amazigh Supreme Council Ibrahim Makhlouf said.

In remarks to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency Makhlouf said: that “the council will end its work as soon as it achieves full and equal rights for the Amazighs with all Libyans”.

“The elections will take place on 30 August in all Tamazight-speaking municipalities where each municipality will elect two representatives, a male and a female who will be tasked to form the council, which will be based in Tripoli,” he explained.

In earlier remarks Makhlouf said that the Supreme Council will aim to defend the Amazigh’s political rights in the Libya Constitution.
