The dances are considered one of the oldest forms of artistic expression known by various Amazigh tribes that settled in the region, and were the subject of competitions between the various tribes.

ALEPPO, SYRIA: Fouad, 11, pushes his juice cart through the streets of Aleppo. Fouad works everyday after school to provide for his small family as his father is unwell. Children contribute to household incomes of more than three quarters of Syrian households, according to a report released by UNICEF. It is thought that one in ten Syrian refugee children in the region is engaged in child labour.
