Libyan government: Daesh killed 30 in Sirte

August 15, 2015 at 2:50 pm

The temporary Libyan government stated that Daesh has killed 30 individuals in its crimes committed against Libyan civilians in Sirte, south of Tripoli, Anadolu reported on Friday.

In addition, the government blamed the UN Security Council for keeping silent with regard to Daesh crimes against Libyan civilians.

Anadolu said that the Libyan government sent a letter to the UN Security Council, requesting it to “pay attention to the dangerous humanitarian situation in Sirte caused by the unprecedented crimes committed by the Islamic State against the residents of the city.”

In the letter, the Libyan government expressed its rage and anger over the “negative position” of the international community and the Security Council, “which are watching what is going on in Sirte and other Libyan cities.”

It also criticised the weapons embargo imposed upon the Libyan army by the Security Council, which does not protect civilians.

Daesh has controlled Sirte since January this year, after the withdrawal of the Brigade 166 affiliated to Libya Dawn Forces, which was asked by the General National Congress in Tripoli to guard the city.

Battles between Daesh and the residents of the city have been going on since Wednesday. The residents are trying to regain control of the city.
