Sweden warns travellers against use of Iraqi Airways

August 15, 2015 at 2:54 pm

The Swedish Transport Authority warned travellers not to use the Iraqi Airways after suspending its license to enter its airports for “not meeting safety demands,” Alkhaleejonline.net reported on Friday.

Director of the Swedish Transport Authority Simon Boslok said in a statement: “The Iraqi Airways has not been meeting the safety standards, which are demanded by European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), for a long time.”

Boslok also added that the license of the Iraqi Airways would be reactivated when it meets the required safety standards. The authority insisted that travellers to Sweden should use other alternatives.

On March, the EASA approved new safety standards for aircrafts’ cockpits. This came after the crash of a German plane. The new standards include not leaving one pilot in the cockpit.

It is worth mentioning that 2014 witnessed an increase of plane crash causalities which resulted in the deaths of 641 people – triple the statistics for 2013. However, the 298 people killed in the Malaysian plane crash in MH17 in Ukraine were not counted.
