The Secretary General of Algeria’s Foreign Ministry Abdelhamid Senouci Bereksi and Turkish Ambassador to Algeria Adnan Kececi on Tuesday signed an additional protocol to the Algerian- Turkish agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation on the status of the representation of the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination in Algeria (TIKA), Algeria’s official news agency APS has reported.

The Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that based on the agreement TIKA will implement several cooperation projects, particularly in the field of restoration of Algerian cultural heritage in partnership with relevant Algerian sectors.

“The protocol provides for the establishment of a joint steering committee for each project of cooperation with specific steps for the implementation of bilateral cooperation projects,” the statement said.

The protocol also aims to broaden the scope of cooperation to include the protection of cultural heritage, education and scientific research, the consolidation of Algerian institutions, building capacity, recovery of water resources and rural and urban development.

“The signing of the Additional Protocol is an important step in the development of cooperative relations between the two countries linked by a friendship treaty in May 2006, which provides for an annual Summit and regular ministerial meetings,” the statement added.

The two countries will set up “legal means for the development of scientific and technical cooperation.”
