Davutoglu: We will take all security measures to protect democracy in Turkey

August 21, 2015 at 1:09 pm

Turkey will take all the necessary security measures to protect its democracy, the country’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said yesterday. “We will never allow democracy to be suspended in Turkey.”

During a press conference at the governing Justice and Development Party headquarters in the capital Ankara, Davutoglu urged the Turkish people to “trust his government and the ability of the state”. He noted that they would continue their duties “with resolution in the face of terror attacks across the country.”

As for the formation of the government, Davutoglu called on the political parties to carry out their duties and make the decision to form an interim government with the parties inside the parliament and to hold early elections. He added that they should not wait for this decision to be made by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and that they should do so before 24 August, the day after Davutoglu’s legal deadline for forming a government.
