Libya’s Brigadier General Khalifa Haftar has said that the cities of Benghazi and Sirte will soon be free from terror groups affiliated to Daesh (ISIS).

During a press conference held on Monday in the Jordanian capital of Amman, the general said that the status of his army on the ground is “good”.

“We are currently preparing to retake more Libyan cities, especially after the Arab League agreed to support us and provide us with arms to fight Daesh [ISIS],” he said.

“If Daesh exists in four or five areas, this is so significant giving Libya’s vast area. We are fighting terrorism on behalf of the world, not only on behalf of the Arabs or Libyans because terrorism is a global problem,” he added.

The general said his army has plenty of volunteers willing to fight the militant group; however they needs arms to do so.

Remarking on his visit to Jordan, Haftar said he discussed with Jordanian officials the potential for cooperation in the fields of joint military training and medical assistance.

Haftar arrived in Jordan on an official visit on Thursday where he met with the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mashal Mohammad Al Zaben, and Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein.
