The shocking images of the lifeless body of a Syrian toddler have sparked debate over the plight of refugees.
Turkish coastguards said two boats sank after setting off from the Bodrum peninsula heading for the Greek Aegean island of Kos early yesterday.
The images of three-year-old Alan Kurdi and his five-year-old brother Galip from the Kurdish-Syrian city of Kobani were widely shared on social networking sites by angry users demanding immediate action from their governments to help refugees.
Save the Children CEO Justin Forsyth said: “This tragic image of a little boy who’s lost his life fleeing Syria is shocking and is a reminder of the dangers children and families are taking in search of a better life. This child’s plight should concentrate minds and force the EU to come together and agree to a plan to tackle the refugee crisis.”
