Spain and Iran could enjoy a strong partnership for the development of their people, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said yesterday.

Speaking during the opening ceremony of an investment conference in Tehran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA), Garcia-Margallo said: “Spanish companies are here to stay.”

The minister arrived in Iran on Sunday accompanied by the Development Minister Ana Pastor and the Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism Jose Manuel Soria Lopez, in a visit to bolster bilateral relationships following the signing of a nuclear deal between the world’s major powers and Iran.

The delegation included 61 businessmen and investors mainly active in the field of implementing infrastructure, development and road building projects.

Garcia-Margallo said: “We will continue to defend dialogue, cooperation and understanding between the two countries.”
