Head of the Qatari National Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, Ambassador Mohammad Al-Amadi, arrived in Gaza yesterday through the Beit Hanoun (Erez) Crossing in the north of Gaza for the opening of the completed Qatari projects.
During a press conference held at the crossing, Al-Amadi said that his visit was in the context of the Qatari National Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza’s efforts and for the opening of some projects that they had completed. He also said he would be signing contracts for other projects in Gaza.
Al-Amadi added: “My visit to Gaza will be fruitful and we will be opening the Qatar projects that have already been completed. I will also be signing new contracts that will benefit the infrastructure and construction sectors.”
He noted that he met with officials in the Palestinian government in the West Bank as well as Israeli officials and that the meetings were positive and fruitful.
He confirmed that the obstacles set forth by the occupation with regards to supplies that enter Gaza such as wood have been removed and that they will enter Gaza regularly.
Al-Amadi also reported that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with the PA to link the Gaza power plant with the gas line and to expand the plant, making it 340 megawatts. He said that the MoU was sent to the Israeli side and that the ball is in their court.
“There is no problem increasing the electric energy in Gaza and Israel studied this proposal and had no initial objections to it,” he said.
He also noted that the International Quartet appointed a special consultant to monitor technical matters regarding supplying Gaza with a gas line for the power plant and the supplies required for this.
It is worth noting that during his last visit last June, Al-Amadi signed contracts for a number of projects in the housing sector, infrastructure and road projects amounting to $32 million.
