Saudi paid former Egyptian PM $260,000 a month

Egyptian journalist and writer Mostafa Al-Bakri said that the former Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab was paid a million Saudi riyals a month when he worked in the kingdom, Almesryoon.com reported yesterday.

Al-Bakri made the comments while attempting to defend the former prime minister. Mahlab was appointed as prime minister by the military rulers of the country and resigned over corruption issues related to a number of his cabinet. He is currently running a caretaker government.

On his Twitter profile, Al-Bakri said: “Al-Sisi’s words about Ibrahim Mahlab were the best appreciation for this man, who left a position in Saudi Arabia with a salary of one million riyals ($266,000).”

In 2012, Mahlab escaped from Egypt after he was called upon by the Egyptian Public Prosecution for investigations into corruption related to what was commonly known as the issue of the “Presidential Palaces”, in which Mubarak’s sons were convicted.

He returned to Egypt in 2013 after he was chosen as a minister in the first government instated by the military rulers immediately after the coup against freely elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi.
