Gaza not reconnected to Egyptian electricity lines

September 16, 2015 at 10:05 am

Gaza Electricity Distribution Company yesterday denied reports that Egyptian electricity lines had been reconnected to supply parts of the Gaza Strip, the company said in a statement.

The statement, which was posted on the company’s Facebook page, came after Egyptian authorities announced the lines were reconnected.

The company appealed to the officials to contact the Egyptian authorities and ask them to accelerate the reconnection of the lines.

The Egyptian lines supply the Strip with about 27 megawatts of electricity; they have been cut for five consecutive days. This coincides with the closure of Gaza’s sole power plant due to a fuel shortage as a result of Israel’s closure of all the crossings into the Strip as part of its Jewish New Year celebrations.
