Yemeni attack on compound housing foreign workers leaves three dead in Saudi Arabia

Three people were killed and 28 others were injured Friday in a Yemeni attack on the southern Saudi province of Samtah, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Major Yahia bin Abdullah al-Kahtani, Saudi Civil Defense spokesman, said that three foreign nationals were killed and 28 other people were injured, including four Saudi nationals, when a projectile launched from Yemen fell on a residential compound in which foreign workers live.

Yemen descended into chaos last September, when the Houthis overran capital Sanaa. In April, the Shia militia also managed to capture Yemen’s southern Aden province, from which Hadi – along with most of his government – was forced to flee to Saudi Arabia.

In March, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched an extensive air campaign targeting Houthi positions across the country, which in recent weeks has allowed pro-Hadi forces to retake most of Aden province.
