The son of Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi is reported to have survived an assassination attempt in the southern province of Aden only one day after his return to the country.

A source close to the Yemeni president said Nasser Abd Rabbuh Hadi, Hadi’s youngest son, returned to Aden on Saturday to arrange for Hadi’s return to the city after it was recaptured from Houthi rebels.

The source said gunmen claiming to be from the southern resistance which opposes Hadi’s rule and demand the south secede from the north, attacked Nasser, but an Emirati force intervened and saved him.

The source added that a number of young men surrounded Nasser’s residence in Khor Al-Mkaser in protest of his return as well as his father’s possible return.

Witnesses said an Emirati force in charge of maintaining security in the province has stepped in and taken control of the situation and escorted the president’s son to the Palace Hotel, which is used by the government to manage its work.
