Tunisia president makes first visit to Egypt

October 4, 2015 at 1:26 pm

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi arrived in Cairo on Sunday for talks with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi.

The two-day visit is the first by Essebsi to Egypt since he came to office in Tunisia late last year.

The two leaders are expected to hold talks on a raft of Arab and regional developments topped by the situation in Libya, Syria and Yemen plus fighting terrorism, a diplomatic source told media agencies.

Tunisia was the birthplace of Arab Spring revolutions that swept the Middle East and North Africa in 2011.

Several strongmen were ousted by the revolts, including Tunisia’s Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali and Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak.
