Jordan’s Court of First Instance rejected a request submitted by the Muslim Brotherhood Society on Tuesday to have ownership of properties owned by the parent organisation along with its headquarters. The newly-licensed society was formed by members who split from the main Brotherhood body under controversial circumstances last year.
A statement issued by the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan said that the judge did not consider the new association to be a replacement for the parent movement. The Brotherhood said that although the decision is subject to appeal, it nevertheless confirms its own legitimacy and legal presence in Jordan.
The Islamic movement called on all parties to “stop targeting and harassing it” and, instead, “focus their work on serving the nation.”
