Turkey detains 890 for attempting to illegally cross its borders

Turkey detained 890 people for attempting to illegally cross the Turkish border with Syria, the Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.

The Chief of Staff said: “Border Guards detained 781 persons while they were trying to enter from Syria to Turkey through the borders.”

It added: “The Border Guards also detained four persons trying to illegally cross the borders from Turkey to Syria.”

A further 101 people were held for infiltrating the Iranian-Turkish border and four others while crossing the country’s border with Iraq.

Some 1,011 people were also arrested for llegally residing in Turkey.
