October 9, 2015 at 11:19 am

Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Bernardino Leon, announced the formation of a Libyan national coalition government after talks were held in Skhirat, Morocco.

During a press conference, Leon said that those participating in the talks proposed Fayez Sarraj as prime minister for the new government and Abdul-Rahman Al-Swehli as head of the General National Congress.

The UN representative stressed that Libya would be able to face all the challenges in the future, noting that the international community will commit to its obligations to the new Libyan government.

Leon also added that the GNC, whose term is up, has requested two new amendments to the final document, stating that the request was rejected since the document reached by all the parties a few days ago is the final document that will not be amended and that the international community is demanding the formation of a unity government without any amendments to the document.
