The US ambassador to Algeria has said that her country values Algeria’s key role as a catalyst for regional stability and cooperation, in particular its ongoing constructive efforts in support of peace in Mali and Libya. Joan Polaschik’s comments were published by AP on Thursday on the occasion of Algerian National Diplomacy Day.

The ambassador said that the history of cooperation and respect between the US and Algeria ensures a continuous dialogue on key issues of mutual interest. It has also contributed to the resolution of some of America’s most difficult problems, including the taking of 52 American hostages in Iran, she added.

“The American people and government remain profoundly grateful to the Algerian government for its role in freeing our hostages,” said Polaschik, “and we salute the talented women and men of the Algerian foreign ministry who continue Algeria’s tradition of creative, skilled diplomacy.”

Ambassador Polaschik added that Washington is looking to deepen its bilateral relations with Algeria and working together to build a prosperous and secure world for future generations.
