Tunisian politician criticises Israeli-Russian coordination in Syria

Former Foreign Affairs Adviser of the President of Tunisia, Anouar Gharbi criticised the “military coordination” between Russia and Israel in Syria which Moscow says aims to “ensure aviation security in the region”.

In remarks to Quds Press yesterday, Gharbi expressed strong indignation over what he described as the Israeli-Russian coordination with some Lebanese and Iraqi groups which he said should support the resistance instead.

He added that the embargo imposed on Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s regime should be lifted to help his army fight invaders.

Meanwhile, Gharbi remarked on Egypt’s selection to serve as a non-permanent member on the UN Security Council for a two-year term beginning on 1 January 2016, saying Cairo has exaggerated the selection especially because the role is not only ineffective in resolving disputes, but Cairo did not have any competition.

“The African Union has nominated Egypt to the Security Council position as representative of North African nations and Senegal as representative for sub-Saharan nations,” Gharbi explained.

He added that Egypt should work to return to the International Parliamentary Union which is the most important UN body and this will not happen unless Egypt held real parliamentary elections to elect a parliament that represents everyone.

“The absence of hope for real achievements makes dictatorship and coups look for the slimmest chance to convince the people of their legitimacy,” he added.
