Canadian documentary on secret prisons and torture in the UAE

October 20, 2015 at 1:42 pm

Human rights activists in Canada have produced a documentary in English that shows the conditions in secret prisons and the torture taking place in the UAE. They have highlighted the case of Libyan prisoners, some of whom have Canadian citizenship.

The documentary, entitled “Arbitrary Detainment: A case of enforced kidnapping”, begins by stating how long the UAE authorities have imprisoned the detainees. They were detained from August to September 2014.

The prisoners’ families reported their incarceration to international human right organisations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, stating that their relatives had been forcibly kidnapped, have been denied access to their lawyers, and their families have not been allowed to visit.

Many international human rights organisations have criticised the forced disappearance of human rights activists or opposition members in the UAE.
