Palestinian MP: Palestinians not intimidated by Israeli arrest campaign

October 22, 2015 at 8:30 am

The campaign of arrests waged by the Israeli forces against Palestinian resistance fighters and activists will not affect the uprising, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council Samira Al-Halaiqa declared yesterday.

In a statement Al-Halaiqa, who is based in Hebron, said the Palestinian uprising cannot be contained in prisons and detention centres or by political decisions because it is a result of the people’s suffering and will not end until the occupation ends.

She said Israel’s arrest of student leaders and social media activists aims to raise the Israeli people’s morale.

“The public arrest of Sheikh Hassan Yousef under media coverage serves exactly that purpose,” she explained. Senior Hamas leader in the West Bank Yousef was arrested in his home by Israeli soldiers and Shin Bet intelligence agency officials on Tuesday.

Al-Halaiqa stressed that the Jerusalem uprising have shaken the Israeli government’s plans and confused its leaders.
