PLO: US putting pressure on PA by decreasing aid

America is putting pressure on the Palestinian Authority by reducing the aid it provides to the government, Quds Press reported member of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) Ahmed Majdalani saying yesterday.

Majdalani stressed that this would never affect the PA’s political positions saying: “This is not the first time the US has decreased aid to put pressure on the political positions.”

He said that this kind of pressure has failed in the past and “never affects the Palestinian political decisions at all.”

Regarding the situation at Al-Aqsa Mosque, he said: “[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s credibility is in doubt not only by Palestinians, but for the whole world and majority of Israelis.”

He added: “[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s persistence on the current status quo means keeping Al-Aqsa Mosque divided, the retention of the siege and escalations to continue.”

A US diplomatic source told Israeli radio that America had decreased the amount of aid it provides to the PA.
