Moroccan King Mohamed IV yesterday called on Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to form the Arab Maghreb Union, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In a letter to Bouteflika sent on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the start of the liberation revolution against the French occupation, the Moroccan King expressed his hope that efforts to strengthen the bond between the two nations would be consolidated.

He also discussed the solidarity and close relations between the two nations during the time of the resistance, noting that was proof of their common interests.

In 1994, tensions between the two countries started after Morocco accused Algerians of bombing a hotel in Marrakesh, Algeria responded by closing its border with its neighbour, while Morocco imposed visa restrictions on Algerians entering the country.
