Tunisian security personnel protest to demand pay raise

November 5, 2015 at 12:39 pm

Thousands of Tunisian members of the National Union of Internal Security Forces yesterday held a protest in front of the country’s security headquarters to demand better pay.

The group’s spokesman Riyad Rezgui said the protests come after the interior ministry refused to respond to their demands.

The union issued a statement earlier demanding an “upgrade to the danger bonus pay to $200 to include retirees in the upgrade”.

The statement also called to increase the night watches and overtime bonus to $150.

Tunisia’s salary budget for 2015 reached more than $5.6 billion.

According to the Tunisian interior ministry data for 2012, the country has nearly 65,000 civil servants.
