Egyptian government to close more Brotherhood NGOs

November 13, 2015 at 12:31 pm

The Egyptian government announced yesterday that it plans to close 12 more non-governmental organisations associated with the Muslim Brotherhood in three Egyptian municipalities.

The Minister of Social Solidarity, Ghada Wali, said in a press statement that 10 of the NGOs are in the Beheira Governorate, one is in Al Daqlahiya Governorate and the other is in Al-Minya Governorate.

“The dissolution of these NGOs is an implementation of the law and a Cairo Court for Urgent Matters ruling that requires activities and assets held by Brotherhood-affiliated NGOs to be impounded and frozen,” she explained. “The assets and funds of these proscribed NGOs will be redirected to the ministry’s NGO assistance fund.”

According to the minister, the latest closures will raise to 545 the number of NGOs dissolved by court order since the 2013 coup in Egypt.
