Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov has said that 160 Russian citizens fighting for the terrorist group Daesh have been killed in Syria, Russian media reports said Thursday.

According to Syromolotov, “2,719 Russian citizens went to Syria from Russia; 160 of them have been killed”. He added that 73 citizens also returned, who were convicted on various charges; 36 of them were arrested.

He added that an estimated 25,000 foreign fighters were believed to be fighting for Daesh in Syria and Iraq.

Meanwhile, Russian General Staff Deputy chief Andrey Kartapolov said that Russian jets hit 190 terrorist targets in Syria that left at least three Daesh commanders dead.

Terrorist group Daesh claimed responsibility for a suspected bomb attack on a Russian passenger plane that crashed in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Oct. 31, killing all 224 people on board.
