Daesh has killed 13 journalists in Mosul since it captured the Iraqi city in June 2014. The figures were revealed by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) in Germany on Friday, Arab48.com has reported.

The extremists killed 13 journalists and released 25, but ten are still being held in custody, said RSF. The organisation works to protect journalists’ rights around the world.

When Daesh captured the city last year it seized eight TV channels and radio stations, and confiscated equipment from media workers. “Since then, there has been no objective media coverage from the city,” RSF pointed out. “Using the confiscated equipment, Daesh has been able to broadcast its news through Dabiq Channel and FM radio Al-Bayan.”

The RSF statement about ISIS and the situation in Mosul was made in partnership with the Iraqi organisation Media Freedom Observer.
