Israel’s excessive force fuels anger, insists UN chief

November 24, 2015 at 10:51 am

As the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People approaches, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said that Israel’s use of excessive force fuels anger and frustration, Almesryoon.com reported on Monday.

Speaking on behalf of Mr Ban, the international organisation’s Deputy Secretary-General, Jan Eliasson, also stressed the need to preserve the status quo in Jerusalem as he called on Israel to “exercise maximum restraint”. Words need to be accompanied by actions to defuse the situation and restore confidence, he added.

“The international community can and must pay more effort to end the deadlock in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process,” concluded the UN official.

The UN will mark International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November, which was the day in 1947 that the General Assembly adopted the resolution to partition historic Palestine into a Jewish state and a Palestinian state.
